Magic with Peter Samelson
Mar 15 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Peter Samelson insists that he doesn’t do magic; he only helps people to see it. He is an illusionist/entertainer/philosopher, blending simplicity and sophistication as he provokes thought and inspires wonder.

Christened “the soft-spoken conceptualist of sorcery” by the New York Times, Peter has distinguished himself not only as a magician, but as an artist. Peter is the recipient of the 2015  Jack Gwynne Award for Excellence in Presentation, graced the cover of Genii Magazine, not once but twice, and was given a Merlin Award for Lifetime Achievement from the International Magicians Society.  He has performed atop the Great Wall of China, for Mexican peasants and Grand Prix race car drivers, Princess Stephanie of Monaco, the jet-set of Paris and the fishermen mending their nets on the beaches of Cartegena.

Peter Samelson performs and designs for television, film and theater, creating magic for Sam Mendes’  productions (at BAM and The Old Vic) of Cherry Orchard and Winters Tale. The New York Times referred to one creation as “a charming ‘Coup de Théâtre.’” Other interesting projects include the National Tour of Pippin, the musical Houdini, Tom Stoppard’s Travesties and the Menotti opera The Consul. With Hal Meyers, he created illusions for the films What About Bob and Whispers in the Dark. Mostly recently Peter designed for the Broadway shows Leap of Faith and Harvey.

As a theatrical performer, Mr. Samelson has also created and starred in three critically acclaimed one-man Off-Broadway shows; The Magician, PaperWork, and Radnevsky’s Real Magic, and appeared on NBC, ABC, CNN, CBS and FOX interview and news shows as well as the PBS Special, The Art of Magic.
